Google Pocket Guide Review, October 12 2003

Continuing with OReillys Pocket Guide series, this book gives
you all the information about Google in a book sized to fit in a shirt
pocket. Google Pocket Guide gives the reader all the information needed
to search any of the many search options.
Beginning with the basics of internet searching, the reader is led to
deeper and more full search options. Each of Googles search parameters
are discussed, as is how to fine tune your search to narrow down the
results. After the basic search, the reader is introduced to preferences
one can set for session to session searches. Then the reader is
introduced to the several other search engines Google offers, such as
News, the Directory, and Groups. Each is explained in detail with
specific search options and features.
In all, this is a great guide for using Google to its fullest. Is the
guide needed by everyone? No, of course not, but would be great for
everyone that doesnt automatically flip every switch and twist every
knob. At $9.95, its a stocking stuffer for your relative that still
cant find anything on the internet.
Google Pocket Guide Review, July 29 2003

An excellent guide.
If you use the Google Search Engine as a normal user, get this book.
It's packed with valuable information
and at the same time is quite readable.
You can read it right through
or you can use it as a user-friendly reference.
Or both.

Media reviews "I don't believe there's a better bargain available in a computer-related book and no one who ever uses the Internet should be without a copy."
--Joan McIlmoyl Cleghorn, Victoria PC Users' Association, February 2004
"Students and anyone involved in research should make sure they have this very portable resource close at hand while connected to the Web. Great value."
--Major Keary, "PC Update," December 2003
"When I got this book from O'Reilly, my first thought was "How cute! A little book for people who can't figure out a search engine." After reading it, I either have to include myself in that group or change my opinion of the book. This is really good stuff!...In a very concise, readable manner, the authors show you all you need to know to get started with the creation of much more powerful searches than you've had in the past...I used to say that if you give me five minutes, I can find what I'm looking for on the web. After reading this book, I may have to revise that to three minutes. If you get a chance to get this book, do so!"
