About Us

Mike and Nicole Clark own and operate The Pragmatic Studio. We live in Denver, CO, but we travel all around the country putting on Studios. We love to teach, and we have a lot of fun doing it!
We work in cooperation with The Pragmatic Programmers. We believe the Pragmatic Programmer books and the Pragmatic Studio workshops offer complementary learning approaches. Studio is a highly collaborative environment where we dig deeper into some topics and cover topics that aren't in the books. We have hands-on programming exercises, peer-to-peer discussions, and time to answer questions related to what you've read or heard. By attending a Studio you'll get the most up to date training on cutting-edge technologies. So even if you've read the books, you'll learn in a significantly different way in the Studio.
We're really passionate about Studio alumni! Since 2005, over 1000 folks have learned Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Erlang, and Ajax in our Studios. It's been our pleasure to meet each and every one of them. Early on we created an alumni mailing list and yearbook site to help keep everyone in touch. It's grown into a supportive, technical community that's far exceeded our expectations. Alumni also receive discounts on future events, a free job posting service, coupons for Pragmatic Programmer books, and our eternal thanks!

In addition to running and teaching Pragmatic Studio, Mike is an independent consultant, author, and programmer. He's the author of Advanced Rails Recipes, co-author of Agile Web Development with Rails, and author of Pragmatic Project Automation. He helped build one of the first commercial Rails applications and continues working on other Rails projects through his consultancy.
