If you haven't yet installed JavaHelp on your machine, visit Sun Microsystems' JavaHelp page, which provides instructions for downloading and installing JavaHelp. The following links trigger downloads of data files used as examples in Creating Effective JavaHelp. Each download is a ZIP archive, which you can process using any standard zip utility.

- Chapter 1:
Aviation HelpSet. This HelpSet (set of files
that make up an
online help project) is used throughout the book. We use it to demonstrate
how JavaHelp works and how to create and modify online help projects.
- Chapter 2:
MyJavaHelp HelpSet. This is a
"build from scratch" HelpSet, implementing a very simple help project.
- Chapter 6:
Alternative Table of Contents Icons. You can
use these icons to
customize your help project's table of contents. Each online TOC entry can
be preceded by an icon; JavaHelp provides standard icons, which you can
easily replace with your own icons.
- Chapter 6:
Default Stopwords File. This text file
contains all of the default
"stopwords" for JavaHelp's word-search facility. To create your
own stopwords list, start with this one and add your own words.
- Chapter 7:
TypeFace Tester Application. This is a Java
application (also
called "TypeFacer") to which we add various forms of JavaHelp:
context-sensitive help, field-level help, embedded help. Also included is
the HelpSet ("TFhelp") that the Java application uses.
- Chapter 7:
Field-Level Help Cursor Icon. This .GIF file
implements an icon that is appropriate for use on a field-level help button.
