What is the FeedBurner API?
FeedBurner offers developers an established (and growing!) library of web services for interacting with our feed management and awareness-generating capabilities. Using the features this library provides, anyone with a FeedBurner account may perform some of the most common actions available on our service programmatically. Outside applications and content management services, including popular blogging platforms, are already making use of this application programming interface (API) to help publishers promote feed stats in new and interesting ways. With the addition of the Feed Management API, publishers can now create and manipulate their feeds' settings as well.
How Do I Start?
FeedBurner offers different APIs for different purposes. Depending on what you want to accomplish, you use one or more of our APIs to interact with FeedBurner feeds, services and stored analytics.
Accessing FeedBurner Feed Analytics
The Awareness API (AwAPI) gives you access to traffic statistics for FeedBurner feeds in your own account or any other feed that has explicitly permitted public access via this API. It's a great way to compare and contrast performance and popularity for entire feeds as well as individual content items within feeds. AwAPI uses the REST protocol to exchange information in a simple XML format.
Creating and Managing Feeds
The Management API (MgmAPI) gives you access to the levers and dials on FeedBurner itself to create feeds, modify their settings, even delete them (your own feeds only, of course). Take control of your FeedBurner account outside of FeedBurner.com; for example, you could build your own Apple Dashboard Widget to view and manage feed settings. (We created one to allow you to access feed statistics using AwAPI; you can download it now.)
Building new FeedFlare Links
The FeedFlare API (FfAPI) allows you to extend the usefulness and reach of syndicated content by integrating third party web services as links users can click when viewing content items in the feed or on the originating site. This open API may be used by anyone to build as many Flare units as their creativity inspires.
