Standards and Protocols
ISOC Internet Standards Programs7 June, 2006: The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) has created a public mailing list for the discussion of the RFC Independent Submissions process. 1 June, 2006: The Internet Engineering Task Force Administrative Oversight Committee plans to issue in 2006 a Request for Proposal for the performance of the RFC Editor functions. To that end the IAOC is issuing a Request for Information to identify organizations interested in pursuing contract award, as well as comments and suggestions from any party about the functions, practices and structure of the RFC Editor. The RFI can be found at: www.ietf.org under the IASA link. 4 April, 2005: Announcements regarding appointments to the IETF Administrative Oversight Committee (IAOC) Internet standards are established by a group of organizations, all of which operate under the auspices of the Internet Society (ISOC).
At the technical and developmental level, the Internet is made possible through creation, testing and implementation of Internet Standards, developed by the IETF. The standards are then considered by the Internet Engineering Steering Group, in consultation with the Internet Architecture Board. The specification documents of the Internet protocol suite, as defined by the IETF and the IESG, are published as RFC's. The RFC Editor prepares and publishes the RFCs and is responsible for the final editorial review of the standards in their definitive form. Platinum Program![]() Recently, the Internet Society created a special "platinum" program. This new initiative provides interested organizations with the ability to designate support for specific areas of ISOC's work. To date, six leading Internet organizations have supported the Internet Society and the Internet standards process in this manner. Current Platinum Program supporters, ARIN, Cisco, and Ripe NCC have renewed their agreement to provide funding at a level of $100,000 annually, specifically targeted for activities which support the development of standards and protocols, including the activities of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), which operates under the auspices of ISOC.
