Audio Synthesis Engine Project
Introduction
As mentioned on the Sound page, parts of the implementation of the Java Sound API will require new, open source implementations. Some of the existing implementation may be moved to open source projects, which will require some re-architecture and refactoring.
Since this redesign has yet to begin, it is difficult to say exactly what the scope of this project will be, however, it is likely to contain:
- Infrastructure to connect to underlying audio systems.
This will provide basic audio and input and output functionality, as well as higher level functionality, such as mixing, filtering, and synthesis, if they are available on the underlying platform. - Software implementations of higher level functionality, such as a MIDI Synthesizer.
