SSH protokolünün bir diğer özelliği de, iki bilgisayar arasındaki internet trafiğini güvenli bir şekilde iletmesidir. SSH bağlantısını oluşturmak için, uzaktaki sistem bir SSH sunucusu gibi çalışmalı, yerel makinenizde de bir SSH istemci programı bulunmalıdır.
