Bio
Developer, designer and Chief Technology Officer at Art & Science Experience Design in Toronto, Canada.
I’m actively involved in the WordPress community – both at a local level through co-organizing WordCamp Toronto, and monthly core hackfests through the Toronto WordPress Meetup Group, and at the global level by speaking at WordCamps, contributing to the Codex, and through my involvement with the core development process. I continue to try to find opportunities to contribute whenever my busy project schedule (and family life) allow!
I cycle to work, teach digital media, and fumble around at both WordPress and raising a family (though not necessarily in that order), and compose electronic and contemporary classical music when I can.
Interests
IoT, Cycling, Hacking, Social Good, Teaching, Learning, Kids.
WordPress Origin Story
When I first started using WordPress, I was all “I’m a seasoned PHP developer, I can hack anything!” My first WordPress project was (and still is!) a disaster.
Eventually, I got more familiar with the core code and discovered the WordPress Way. It’s possible to write amazing, beautiful, elegant, structured, compliant, future-proof and self-documenting WordPress plugins, themes and customizations if you take the time to learn the Core.
What’s the best way to do this? Contribute to core! Join your local WordPress Meetup group, or Contrib2Core circle and start giving back, and learning while you do!
