Bio
I’ve been building custom websites and web apps for people, non-profits, embassies, and businesses since 2012. The projects are typically on WordPress, so they’re easy to manage and update for clients. I really love doing this. It’s the perfect mix of problem solving, helping people, and life-long learning. And there’s plenty to learn in web development!
By day, I’m an Application Architect at the University of Wisconsin—Madison where I build and maintain custom websites and applications for the university.
In the past, I’ve mostly freelanced, working through platforms like toptal and Codeable, as well as a brief stint as a web engineer with 10up. Then I spent a couple years as VP of Development at The Digital Ring, a digital marketing agency based in Madison, WI. After that, a couple years as a Senior WordPress Engineer at Strattic.com building serverless integrations for WordPress (fun stuff!), and then we got acquired and I got moved to Elementor.com.
An avid learner, I have made a habit of collecting masters degrees (MBA, MA, MDiv). I like to say that I would be a professional student if it would pay the bills. I’ve also been to six continents (not Antartica… yet!), lived on four, speak Spanish, and I am varying degrees of conversational in a couple other languages.
Interests
Being with people (and being alone, I’m an introvert), cooking, coffee, scotch, barrel-aged beer, smoked meats, travel, learning (especially languages!), movies, and a few other things:-).
WordPress Origin Story
I started making affiliate sites on WordPress. I actually enjoyed setting up the sites way more than I enjoyed running marketing campaigns. Once I found out I could customize the site with code (fun!) and the community was amazingly helpful (super fun!), I was sold…
