The author describes a new device for viewing the normal mode patterns of sound waves in a cavity. This device uses gas flames to make the modes visible. Viewers experience both the sound frequencies from an audio oscillator used to excite the acoustic cavity, and the gas flame patterns that reveal the mode patterns for the sound waves.
