The “Agency in Movement” special section of Leonardo Transactions is a selection of papers from the “Agency in Movement” symposium held by SymbioticA on 21 June 2013 at the University of Western Australia, Perth. These papers are a response to ideas concerning perceptions of life and agency through movement. The symposium included speakers from diverse disciplines who explored and interrogated the conceptual and technical relations between life (biological or artificial), movement and perceptions of “vitality.” This quest is part of a research project that explores the animation of lab-grown life: Tissue Engineered Muscle Actuator (TEMA).
