Below is a summary of discussion on the proposal to date. We encourage you to continue discussion on the mailing list before APNIC 25. Discussion statistics --------------------- Posted to Policy SIG mailing list: 22 January 2008 Number of posts: 20 Number of people participating in discussions: 7 Economy of origin of participants: 3 from Australia 3 from Japan 1 from outside AP Summary of discussion to date ----------------------------- - Will organisations that have previously acquired transferred addresses come forward and register those transfers if this proposal is passed? - A desire to have transferred space routed will encourage registration under this proposed policy. - Registration of resources is one of the key reasons for the success and stability of the routing system so far. - The proposal allows a prefix to be swapped for another prefix, meaning a prefix doesn't need to leave the RIR pool it originally came from. - For this to work, however, there must be sufficient remaining unallocated space in the registry pools. - When all IPv4 space has been allocated by the RIRs, there will be an increase in NAT use, so why limit the smallest address transfer size to /24? - An organisation anywhere in the world is free to become a member of APNIC. Therefore, any organisation could be a recipient of APNIC-delegated space. - An organisation that transfers address space to another organisation under this proposal could not receive a new allocation or assignment from APNIC but could receive a transfer of space from another APNIC member. - The proposal allows an organisation to transfer part of its address block while keeping the rest of it.
