Hi all, This email is a suggested clarification for the scope of the SKOS reference, in particular with respect to the requirements that concern more support for modeling and describing lexical entities. Currently, SKOS does not include any built-in support for describing and modeling lexical entities other than RDF plain literals [1]. A couple of months ago I began to sketch an extension to SKOS at [2], which I previously called "SKOS-XL". I have recently made a few cosmetic changes at [2] and added some more detail to the notes. Hopefully, the sketch at [2] demonstrates that those more advanced requirements concerning the description and modeling of lexical entities could, in principle, be supported by one or more *extensions* to SKOS, which would be compatible with the current SKOS Reference [1], and which could either be published by this working group or by a third party. Therefore, given our current timetable, I suggest that we consider requirements concerning the modeling and description of lexical entities other than RDF plain literals as out of scope for the SKOS candidate recommendation. If after resolving our current list of issues the working group has any time left over, we could consider publishing a suitable SKOS extension supporting these requirements as a new work item. However, I suggest our default position be to leave the definition of such an extension to third parties in the SKOS community of use. ACTION: Alistair to propose an approach to clarify which aspects of the extension module should be in scope for the candidate recommendation package.
