The control panel has three tabs. The third one is entitled "Build the site" and lets you take the two actions shown (and described in detail) in the screenshot below. (See also tab 1 and tab 2.)
The How to Data website build process is two steps, as you can see from the screenshot.
- The Python scripts in the main folder convert the
database
folder and all of its contents into Markdown files and store them in thejekyll-input
folder.- In this step, any code you've written (e.g., a new solution in R to some task in the database) will be run.
- Also in this step, any PDFs that need to be updated will be rebuilt.
- This is the step shown on the left above, and it is the step that you almost certainly want to use. Run this when you have added or changed a solution or task and want to update its preview according to your edits.
- The output from step 1 (stored in the
jekyll-input
folder) is built into a website using Jekyll, a tool for building static websites.- This step is typically run only by the project maintainer before publishing a new version of the website.
