Memory

Ben Blakey

Stop.
Frozen time.
Where were you when it happened?
Who were you, anyway?
Who are you now?

Cheat.
Just this once.
Why did you have to do it?
Why do you regret it so?
How has it changed you?

Lie.
Through you teeth.
Can't you just ignore it?
Why won't it go away?
Who will you become

Think.
Use your head.
To whom do you owe the changes in your life?
How could you live your life without them?
Who are your friends? [End Page 4]

Go.
Sure and swift.
Why wouldn't you try to save yourself
What could possibly get in your way?
What do you want to be?

Ben Blakey, who studies music at the royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), is currently working on a book of poems.
