Previous Research
1) 3D Reconstruction using Heterogeneous Robot Teams
To obtain occlusion-free 3D geometric data, I exploited heterogeneous robot systems composed of unmanned aerial/ground vehicles (UAV/UGV) and developed an automated framework to integrate UAV and UGV data. The finally generated occlusion-free 3D point clouds can be used to create precise digital twins and BIMs.

2) AI-powered Point Cloud Information Modeling (PCIM)
To generate a semantically enriched 3D model from 3D geometric models, I have developed a deep learning-based construction object classification in 3D point cloud data, called point cloud information modeling (PCIM). The PCIM can classify various construction objects and their properties.

3) Digital Twin-assisted Blind Operation for Crane
The objective of this research is to explore a method for real-time crane motion capturing and investigate an approach for assisting hazard detection. To achieve this goal, this research employed multiple technologies, including 1) multi-sensing system, 2) 3D reconstruction, 3) VR/AR, and 4) digital twin.

4) Best Practices in Mass Concrete Construction
The objective of this research is to develop the mass concrete thermal management methods and decision-making tools through GDOT’s real-world mass concrete construction projects as pilot case studies. The real-world cost implication of thermal management methods are investigated as well.

5) Rapid Disaster Relief using Multi-Robot Team
The main objective of this research is to define and examine an advanced human-multi-robot cooperative disaster relief framework which can rapidly assist human crisis intervention and search and rescue (SAR) teams. The teams at Georgia Tech and Seoul National University in South Korea are formed to collaboratively resolve this global challenge.

1) CPS-based Non-Contact Facility Management System after COVID 19
The objective of this research is to develop a Human-in-the-Loop CPS for Non-Contact Facility Maintenance at the post COVID era. To achieve this goal, I will develop a BIM-integrated AR application for non-contact data exchange between residents and facility managers. Automated damage dection algorithm using deep learning will be implemented into the AR app.

2) Smart Earth Moving with Multi-Robot Teams
The main purpose of this research is to realize smart earthwork with multi-robot collaboration. In this research, UAV and UGV will play a role to manage and control the entire earthwork project. IoT-based Geofencing technique will be implemented for the construction safety.

Teaching Philosophy
In the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, engineers' core competencies are no longer technical skills but rather the ability and willingness to think critically and creatively about complex issues. Therefore, my overarching goal as an educator is to be a "SandBox." As SandBox, in the computer science area, means a protected testing environment to software developers and web designers, I would like to be an educator who can afford a space to secure students' diverse perspectives.
