Synopsis: The Pianist is a 2002 historical drama film co-produced and directed by Roman Polanski, scripted by Ronald Harwood, and starring Adrien Brody. It is based on the autobiographical book The Pianist, a World War II memoir by the Polish-Jewish pianist and composer Władysław Szpilman. The film was a co-production between France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Poland.

INT. WARSAW (ARCHIVE) - DAY

Black and white. Street scene. People toing and froing. A

man rattles by.

SUPERIMPOSE CAPTION:

WARSAW 1939

INT. STUDIO, RADIO STATION, WARSAW - DAY

WLADYSLAV SZPILMAN plays Chopin's Nocturne in C sharp minor,

Posthumous. He's twenty-eight years old, elegant and

handsome.

In the booth, separated from the studio by a glass screen,

an engineer, wearing collar and tie, monitors the broadcast.

Behind him, a window to the street with strips of paper

taped on it as protection against blast.

Without warning, a bomb drops nearby, then another and

another. The whole building shudders alarmingly and the

window in the booth shatters.

Ronald Harwood

Sir Ronald Harwood, CBE, FRSL (born Ronald Horwitz; 9 November 1934) is an author, playwright and screenwriter. He is most noted for his plays for the British stage as well as the screenplays for The Dresser (for which he was nominated for an Oscar) and The Pianist, for which he won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.       Best thing to do is to write it as a story, then read the Scriptwriter's bible to learn how to format it. That's what I did, and it's not failed me yet! Good luck. xx

    All of your scripts are awesome, top of the line, but one thing makes all of them COMPLETELY worthless, and that is, none of the dialouges have speaker's name.

      Hi Muhammad, thanks for your feedback! Some of the scripts on Scripts.com indeed only contain the transcript, without the speaker's name.

      Having said that, lots of other do include the entire script, which includes the speaker's name.

      We'll continue adding more full scripts going forward.
