A community that’s enthusiastic about linguistics!
Has Lingthusiasm gotten you excited about linguistics or reignited your long-slumbering interest in linguistics? But now you wish you had more people to nerd out about linguistics and other language-y topics with?
You can hear from us more often than monthly by following @lingthusiasm on various social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Bluesky, Mastodon, and LinkedIn, and have a look at who else is interacting with us for more linguistics nerds to follow!
For a more intense dose of linguistics, you can also check out the Lingthusiasm Discord server!
Discord is a private chatroom site – it’s like Slack or IRC, if you’ve used either of those, and if you haven’t, all you really need to know is how to type words in a box and people can help you with anything else.
Here are some fun things to expect from the Lingthusiasm Discord server:
- MANY linguistically-themed custom emoji, most of which are made by your fellow lingthusiasts, including a wonderful array of wugmoji!
- Channels to talk about each new Lingthusiasm episode as well as older episodes if you’re making your way through the back catalogue
- Channels to talk about further linguistics topics, such as interesting linguistics links people find, linguistics memes, and teaching yourself linguistics
- Channels about linguistically-related topics including language games and puzzles, conlanging, language learning, and academia support
- A language-peevery-free space!
- The all-important food and cute channels, if you’re feeling unsure what to say about linguistics but you want to participate, you can always post a photo of a delicious foodstuff or an adorable pet! (Warning: food and pet conversations have been known to turn into conversations about regional words for foods and origins of pet names!)
- And more, we’re open to suggestions!
