What happens in a focus session?

Focus, lots of it! Our focus sessions give you the perfect virtual environment for you to concentrate without being distracted. We have several formats and styles for you to choose from, but the gist is as follows: join a live session from your computer, and get ready to define your goal for the session then sit down to get it done.

What type of tasks can I work on?…

Our vibrant community spans various professions, all actively attending Flocks. This diverse group includes writers, designers, coders, coaches, students, entrepreneurs, accountants, ceramists, musicians, and others who use our tools to stay accountable. They use Flocks to get all kinds of tasks done – getting organized, writing documents or decks, creative tasks, or setting aside time to learn. Flocks are designed with desk-centric tasks in mind, but we cheer on members who wish to bring less conventional tasks to sessions. We see people cleaning, reading, decorating. If it’s a task that’s important to you, and you need help getting the motivation to do it, Flock it.

What is body doubling?

Body doubling is a powerful technique used to improve focus and productivity. It's simply the act of working in the presence of somebody else. This gives you a sense of companionship, but also a boost of accountability and motivation. And if you struggle with distractions, a body double gives you an ‘anchor’ for your focus, to bring you back to what you mean to be doing.

Can I join a session right now?

Absolutely! Drop-In sessions run 24-hours a day, every day. So you’re always just a few clicks from a body-doubling session. Drop-Ins are live, silent rooms for you to focus in. For the full-blown FLOWN experience, join a facilitated session. Our schedule has more than 50 sessions a week – you’re sure to find something to suit you.

Who will I meet in a session?

Do I need to interact with other people?

We understand that a virtual room full of strangers can seem a little daunting! If that sounds like you, dip your toe first. Drop-In sessions ask nothing of you other than optionally writing your goal for your session on a little box on the interface. Joining a Power Hour is another great way to try a session out. It’s a facilitated hour-long focus sprint – again, you only have to write in the chat, and only if you want to. The only time you’ll interact with other members in a focus session is during a Deep Dive, when you set your goals for the sessions with a group of fellow members. We also do a similar exercise in the Take-Off morning sessions. It’s all designed to give you a sense of supporting accountability.

How many focus sessions shall I join in a day?

Deep work pioneer Cal Newport recommends setting aside four hours a day for deep, distraction-free work - the kind that demands your full attention. However, at FLOWN, we understand that deep work isn't the only kind of work you need to do on a daily basis. That’s why we provide sessions at nearly every hour of the day, to cater to your needs, when you need them. But it's not all work and no play at FLOWN. We also run sessions that are all about rejuvenation and relaxation during your workday. So, if you're looking to build a daily habit of journaling, intention setting, and meditation, or you're interested in exploring breathwork or seeking some creative inspiration, we've got just what you need. At FLOWN, we're here to support all facets of your productive life!
